As soon as you request the refund from your institution, Flywire will need to wait for your institution to notify us of said refund and once that happens, we will let you know by email. It typically takes 1 to 2 weeks for Flywire to receive the funds from your institution, and depending on when your institution sends the funds, it could potentially take longer. As soon as we have said funds, Flywire will reach out to the payer directly should we need additional documentation to complete your refund. If the communication from your end with Flywire is streamlined, the process to have the necessary information should take around 2 business days.
If your funds are not yet sent to the institution and you request a refund from us, we will reach out to your institution for permission to return the funds and the timing depends on when they are able to answer our request. At that point, Flywire will be ready to send your refund.
Flywire will then send the funds back to the originating bank account using the same payment method as you used when sending the funds to us. Card payments reach the originating account typically faster than bank transfer, however, kindly allow up to 5 business days for the refund to reach back to the originating account.
